Mercedes-Benz G-Class Grand Edition

Celebrates a 22-year model history. Special edition Mercedes-Benz Grand Edition boasts tasteful finishings

By Reuben van Niekerk on 10 Oct 2024
Mercedes-Benz have unveiled a special edition of their evergreen G-Class, which highlights the exceptional status of the performance off-roader, which has been part of the family since 2002.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Grand Edition is limited to only 1 000 units globally with 20 units earmarked for South Africa.

The Grand Edition is painted in MANUFAKTUR night black magno, which is accentuated by gold-coloured details that add an exciting visual contrast by emphasising the particular design elements that trace the direct lineage of the modern off-road vehicle to the first G model from 1979.

For the first time the Grand Edition features the AMG logo and the Mercedes star in Kalahari gold magno colour while the Affalterbach emblem of the performance brand emblazoned on the bonnet is finished in the same Kalahari gold magno as are the inlays in the front and rear bumpers, the optical underride protection in the front, the Mercedes star in the spare wheel inlay and the spare wheel well.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Grand Edition rides on 22-inch AMG forged wheels with a cross-spoke design in tech gold which includes a matt black central locking nut and a Mercedes star also in tech gold. This same colour scheme is again used to accentuate the side foiling of the Grand Edition.

Gold detailing inside

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition is also defined by a contrasting black and gold theme. Upon entry occupants are greeted by AMG emblems on the black door sill trims, which now feature illuminated borders.

The seats are finished in G Manufaktur black nappa leather with contrasting gold stitching, while the roof grab handles also feature a nappa leather covering. Plaques with a gold AMG logo and gold edging are set into the backrests. The dashboard grab handle ahead of the front passenger incorporates a trim piece inlay made of carbon fibre and copper along with a Grand Edition script, a theme that is continued in other areas of the interior too.

The last of its kind

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Grand Edition is a testament to the success of the G-Class over the past 22 years and a fitting swansong as Mercedes-Benz prepares to usher in a new era for the G-Class in coming months.
