VW to launch four new passenger cars in 2025

The Volkswagen Golf will relaunch in SA in April this year

By Reuben van Niekerk on 20 Feb 2025
Volkswagen South Africa have released details into their planned product rollout for 2025 and it is most certainly going to be an exciting year for the brand and its loyal supporters.

T-Cross range expanded with entry-level models

In order to be more competitive against the myriad of new players entering the market, Volkswagen are adding two new derivatives to their T-Cross range at a more affordable price point. The T-Cross 1.0 TSI 70kW manual and 1.0 TSI 85kW DSG will be priced at R400 700 and R418 200 respectively.

While being more affordably priced these models still offer a high level of standard equipment including a digital cockpit and app connect. The 85kW DSG model takes this one step further with the addition of LED headlights, daytime running lights and rear combination lamps as well as additional safety features in the form of driver and passenger airbags, electronic stability control and an advanced driver attention and drowsiness monitor.

Volkswagen Tayron

Later this year, Volkswagen will be launching the Tayron, which will join their SUV line up between the Tiguan and the Touareg. The Tayron is 23cm longer than the Tiguan and offer seating for seven passengers.

The standard features list includes a variety of premium features such as interactive IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights and seats that feature a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function. The Tayron will be launched with Life and R-Line equipment lines, each with a carefully selected variety of equipment. Engine and pricing details are still to be revealed.

Celebrating 15 years of Vivo

In 2025 Volkswagen SA will celebrate 15 years of Vivo with the launch of a limited edition Vivo Edition 15 of which only 1500 units will be built.
The Vivo Edition 15 will only be available in a Deep black pearl or a Crystal ice blue colour and will feature unique decals on the bonnet, lower doors and rear glass as well as bespoke Edition 15 scuff plates.

Black style elements include a black roof, blacked out B and C pillars and mirror caps. The Polo Vivo Edition 15 rides on 15-inch alloy wheels that have been machine polished, and which feature a painted rear portion.

Golf is back

The biggest news is that the Golf is back with VW confirming that they will launch four derivatives of the Golf 8.5, all powered by the same 1.4TSI engine that offers 110kW and 250Nm and which is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, in April this year.

The iconic Golf nameplate has only been available in GTI and R form in South Africa since the launch of the Golf 8 in 2020.
The latest iteration is distinguished by a new front end, a Volkswagen logo that is illuminated and newly designed LED headlights. The interior is revised with the latest generation infotainment systems and the return of physical buttons in many locations, which replace the much-criticised haptic controls.

Despite confirmation that the Golf 8.5 will go on sale in 2025, the performance derivatives including the Golf 8.5 GTI and Golf 8.5 R are yet to be cleared by engineers for South African introduction due to concerns surrounding SA’s fuel quality.

The new Golf range will be offered in Life, Life +, R-Line and R-Line + equipment lines with pricing starting at R580 900.
