Opel has launched a refreshed Corsa which is more modern, more digital and more diverse than ever before while being designed and engineered to put the fun back into driving.
Now in its sixth generation, the Opel Corsa is amongst the most popular small cars in Germany and one of the best sellers in the UK. The Opel Corsa has a great following in South Africa too, thanks in part to the popularity of the Lite derivative over the years, which continues to be offered as the entry point into the range.
The new Corsa is available in three trim levels starting with the Lite which features an impressive specification list, Edition models with a host of added features, and the new GS Line which offers additional performance and a high level of standard features.
Modern design
Upfront the Corsa’s design is now dominated by the distinctive Vizor front end, a single smooth panel between the LED headlights, which is home to the driver aids and safety technologies.
Styling updates include 16-inch alloy wheels on Lite and Edition models. GS Line models are differentiated by a black roof, black badging, a black Corsa script and bi-colour diamond cut 16-inch alloy wheels.
Upgraded interior
The Corsa’s upgraded infotainment system includes the new Opel Pure Panel, which in Edition and GS Line derivatives, comes to life with a new 10-inch Intellilink touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster does duty in the Lite while the driver is treated to a seven-inch display on Elite and GS Line derivatives. All models also feature an upgraded steering wheel design.
A high level of standard specification
Standard features include electric windows all round, air conditioning, Eco LED headlamps and Active Lane Assist. Edition models add front and rear parking sensors and Side Blind Zone Alert as well as traffic sign recognition to the standard offering. The top of the range GS Line derivative takes the standard specification one step further with the addition of automatic climate control, an electric parking brake as well as heated front leatherette seats.
All models feature an extensive list of safety features including ESP, Hill-Start Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Front Pedestrian Detection, Driver, Passenger, Front Seat Side and Curtain Airbags and Isofix child seat anchorage.
Under the bonnet
Opel Corsa Lite and Edition derivatives are powered by a three-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that offers 74kW and 205Nm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Opel claim that these models will use just 5.7 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
GS Line models are fitted with an enhanced version of this same 1.2-litre turbocharged engine which offers 96kW and 230Nm in this application and which is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The GS Line model is said to use 6.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
