Hyundai i20 treated to interior and exterior updates

By Reuben van Niekerk on 08 Jul 2024

The Hyundai i20 has been a solid competitor in the hatchback segment for many years and offers a comprehensive motoring package throughout the range. This popular and very successful model has been treated to a refresh, which includes a stylish new design.

Refreshed exterior

The i20 features a refreshed design which includes redesigned front bumper featuring a new pattern as well as a black radiator grille. A dynamic light signature emphasis the bold overall look, which includes halogen technology on the Premium and Executive and LEDs on the N Line derivative. At the rear, a redesigned bumper and unique taillight design completes the updates. N Line and Executive derivatives ride on new 16-inch alloy wheels.

Spacious well-appointed interior

Despite its compact B-segment dimensions, the i20 offers plenty of interior room, along with 311 litres of boot space. The spacious interior is further enhanced by a clean, neat ergonomic design, with a host of standard convenience features that enhance the value for money proposition.

A mixture of cloth and artificial leather is utilised in Premium and Executive variants, while the interior of the N Line is finished with artificial leather. All models feature a manual tilt and telescopic steering column and height adjustment for the driver’s seat.

Air conditioning is manual on the Premium and Executive variants, while the N Line features automatic climate control. All models benefit from an adjustable air outlet for the rear passengers.
All models feature the same 3.5-inch Supervision digital instrument cluster with TFT multi-information display for the driver as well as an eight-inch touchscreen, featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring capability while also doubling as the display for the rear park assist and rear view monitor.

USB, USB-C and 12V charging points are provided while Executive and N Line derivatives gain a wireless cell phone charger.
All models now feature steering wheel controls allowing for convenient control of volume, cell phone Bluetooth calling and various mode settings.

All i20 models feature upper and lower Isofix child seat attachment points, ABS and EBD. Premium and Executive versions are fitted with airbag protection for the driver and front passenger. N Line derivatives feature Electronic Stability Control as well as side impact airbags for the front occupants along with curtain airbags that extend to the rear of the car.

The Hyundai i20 will be available in three specification and trim levels and with a mix of three engines and three transmissions. Specification levels include Premium, Executive and N-Line.
Premium models are equipped with either a 1.2-litre or 1.4-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The 1.2 Premium is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox while the 1.4 Premium utilises a six-speed automatic transmission.

Executive models can be had with the 1.2 litre, five-speed manual combination or the 1.4-litre paired with the six-speed automatic transmission.
The 1.2 litre engine offers 61kW and 114Nm, allowing it to reach a top speed of 169km/h while using just 5,9 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
