Ford have extended their Platinum treatment, which has historically been reserved for Everest models, to the Ranger and in doing so created the most luxurious and sophisticated Ranger ever.
The Ford Ranger Platinum takes the bakkie segment into unchartered territory with exceptional levels of luxury, comfort and refinement normally associated with premium SUVs.
Distinguishing features
The Ford Ranger Platinum is differentiated from the rest of the Ranger line up by a unique grille incorporating accented mesh and a silk chrome finish for the horizontal bars and grille surround. This is complimented by three-dimensional PLATINUM badging on the bonnet and lower sections of the front doors for a further exclusive touch.
Classy silk chrome detailing is evident throughout the vehicle including on the side steps, side vents, window linings and rear bumper. Accented wheel arches house attractive 20-inch machine-faced alloy wheels with ebony accents which are fitted with all-season tyres. The front bumper, mirror caps and door handles are colour coded to ensure a refined and seamless visual appeal.
At the working end the load box is fitted with a fixed sports hoop and side rails while the tailgate incorporates additional damping for enhanced ease of use. The Cargo Management System is fitted as standard, which makes it easy to safely secure all types of loads. Useful roof rails have been carried over from Wildtrak models and the nifty powered roller shutter is available as an added cost option.
The Ranger Platinum is also fitted with Ford’s innovative Matrix LED headlights, which are built into the signature C-clamp headlamp design. This fully adaptive Matrix LED lighting system offers benefits such as a glare-free high beam which prevents the dazzling of other road users while providing increased visibility at night.
The Ranger Platinum is available in five colour options including Iconic Silver, Frozen White, Carbonized Grey, Lucid Red and Agate Black.
High quality interior
Complimenting the exterior enhancements is a cabin that prioritises comfort, convenience and supreme luxury.
The seats are unique to the Platinum model and are distinguished by premium quilted and perforated high-grade leather, along with accent stitching. Front seats incorporate heating and ventilated cooling as well as 10-way power adjustment. Platinum badges adorn the front seatbacks and floor mats.
The instrument panel has been enhanced with the addition of soft touch trim along with accent stitching, attractive Black Maple decorative finishes for the dashboard and door appliques, satin aluminium trim strips and an upper glovebox for enhanced practicality. Standard ambient lighting allows owners to change the interior ambience to suit their preferences or mood.
High-end technology
The dashboard is also home to the extra-large 12.4-inch full-width LCD instrument cluster, which offers a clear view of all vehicle parameters, with the graphics and theme changing according to the chosen Selectable Drive Mode. Software is the latest SYNC 4A infotainment system which facilitates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SYNC off-road screen, a 360-degree camera system and a premium B&O sound system.
The Ranger Platinum is fitted with Pro Trailer Back-up Assist with Trailer Reverse Guidance. This system takes the guesswork out of reversing the vehicle with a trailer as the driver simply uses the rotary Selectable Drive Modes Controller on the centre console to position the trailer where required.
A full range of advanced driver assistance features includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centring, Active Park Assist with autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
Occupant safety is taken care of by dual front, side and curtain airbags, a driver’s knee airbag and far side airbags positioned between the front seats to prevent occupants from colliding with each other in the event of an impact.
Under the bonnet
The Ford Ranger Platinum is available exclusively with the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine that delivers 184kW at 3 250rpm and 600Nm from 1 750rpm. A 10-speed automatic transmission ensures seamless performance.
A full-time four-wheel drive system is fitted as standard, providing sure-footed traction and control, regardless of driving conditions. It operates in 4 Auto by default for both on and off-road driving, while 4x4 high-range and low-range can be selected for gravel and more challenging terrain. Rear-wheel drive only is available by switching to 2H.
