Renault launches all-new Duster

Third generation Renault Duster launches in SA

By Reuben van Niekerk on 12 Mar 2025
Historically, the Renault Duster has enjoyed tremendous success in South Africa with over 26 000 units sold. South Africans loved the Duster for its frugality, its roomy interior in relation to its exterior dimensions as well as real 4x4 ability in a compact package with the four-wheel drive models, which opened the door for adventure without breaking the bank.

The new Renault Duster represents the next chapter in this story as it embodies elements such as robustness, practically and an eco-savvy nature in a well-designed, modern package.

The third generation Duster represents a major overhaul for the popular SUV. Based on the CMF-8 platform, it offers modernised styling, improved technology and efficient drivetrains while maintaining the Dusters rugged appeal.

Bold new styling

A bolder, more assertive design is characterised by a more muscular design with a tough stance, signature Y-shaped headlights and taillights, a larger grille featuring a prominently placed new Renault logo, chunky cladding and skid plates for off-road appeal and modular roof bars.

Higher ground clearance, measuring 217mm on 4WD models makes the Duster more capable and gives it a more dominant stance. Flared wheelarches enhance the ruggedness while providing protection against dirt and debris. Flush rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar, creating a sleek, coupe like appearance.

A modern spacious interior

The Duster is based on the same platform as models like the Clio and Captur allowing for more passenger and luggage space compared to the previous generation, with only a slight increase in overall length. The interior is wider and more practical featuring ergonomically redesigned seats that offer better lumbar support and improved cushioning. The boot volume has grown to a massive 472 litres.
A high, vertical dashboard and broad band contribute to a feeling of roominess while the driver centric design is more comfortable and safety orientated.

The enhanced interior experience is characterised by a more spacious cabin and practical interior with improved ergonomics, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen system featuring Renault’s latest user interface, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Ahead of the driver a new seven-inch digital instrument cluster provides clear, customisable driver information.
The Duster also features a new YouClip 3-in-1 system, which is an innovative modular accessory attachment system designed to enhance practicality and convenience inside the cabin. These mounting points allow users to attach storage accessories, making the interior more adaptable and functional to different needs.

Y-shaped signature design cues connect the interior and exterior and include Y-shaped air vents and trim elements as a nod to the Y-shaped LED headlights and rear lights outside.

Two modern engines to choose from

The new Renault Duster is available with two new engine options. A 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol mild hybrid offers 96kW and 230Nm along with improved fuel efficiency. This powertrain combines a new-generation 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V battery and an electric starter generator that assists the internal combustion engine. Features include stop/start technology, mild hybrid drive and a 48V battery. This model is paired to a four-wheel drive system and a manual transmission.

Duster 4x2 EDC models are equipped with a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine, paired to an Efficient Dual Clutch automatic transmission in a front wheel drive 4x2 configuration. This powertrain combination offers 113kW and 250Nm while using as little as 6,5-litres per 100km.

Upgraded tech

The new Duster offers enhanced levels of tech, which is on display in the interior and which has also been employed to keep occupants safe.

The new Duster has been significantly updated in terms of safety and now features six airbags. Additional driver assistance features include a multiview camera with 360-degree sensors, a Tyre Pressure Monitor and Blind Spot Detection.

Enhanced all-terrain capabilities

4WD Duster models offer 4WD Terrain Control with five driving modes marked Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road and Eco. Generous ground clearance of 217mm between axles in the 4WD version, along with optimised approach and departure angles, ensure exceptional off-road performance. Downhill speed control provides added confidence on steep slopes. A 4WD monitor offers real-time off-road assistance to help drivers navigate challenging terrain more effectively.

Refined damper settings, steering ratio and tuning and tyre enhancements contribute to a more precise response to a variety of driving conditions.

Model range

The new Duster is available in three derivatives including a six-speed manual 4WD Mild Hybrid Zen, an 4x2 EDC Zen and the top of the range EDC 4x2 Intens. Pricing includes a five-year/150 000km warranty and a three-year/45 000km service plan.
