Instant Intro - BMW 760Li

BMW 760Li Rear View in White

BMW tradition successfully continued - launch the 7 Series as brand flagship to showcase all the latest technological advancements. Then, add the flagship... packed with everything in it. The new BMW 760Li sits in the highest position within the BMW brand portfolio, "representing the highest level of motoring refinement in its segment", claims BMW.

The heart and foundation of this exceptional new standard comes from the V12 engine. This V12 is a master-piece of modern engine technology. Superior power of 400 kW and maximum torque of 750 Newton-metres from just 1500 rpm is achievable thanks to TwinPower Turbo technology. Combined with the likewise brand-new 8-speed automatic transmission, it offers motoring refinement and dynamic driving. This debuts the world's first V12 plus 8-speed combination.

Normally performance figures are not quoted for a large limousine-like luxury car, but BMW claims 0-100 km/h in a very quick 4.6 seconds, despite a 2.2 ton weight, saying it can manage a low (for its type) average fuel consumption of 13 l/100km. The exhausts are also V12-specific, with 4 rectangular exhaust tips nestling neatly in the bumper. V12 lettering whispers discreetly, but with meaning, on the flanks.

Some technological highlights as standard in this BMW flagship will have to be split into categories: for suspension and steering there are Dynamic Damping Control including Driving Dynamic Control (at the touch of one button, adjusts suspension, throttle response, steering assistance, gear changes and driver assistance systems settings), Dynamic Drive (anti-roll stability system), pneumatic rear suspension, plus Integral Active Steering (speed-related steering angle on the rear (yes rear, dear!) wheels).

Driver assistance tech lists Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Night Vision with detection of individual persons (ingeniously outlining human silhouettes in white on the display), Head-Up Display, High-Beam Assistant, Adaptive Headlights with Cornering Lights, Surround View (top view and side cameras), while Active Cruise Control (automatically keeps a following distance) is as an option because not everyone likes the car doing too much of the driving. Automatic Soft Close on doors means there's no need to exert effort to close the doors.

Nice lux and trim touches include Exclusive Nappa leather (a R38 700 option on other 7's), leather dashboard, 2 comfort rear seats with electric adjustment and ventilation/heating/massaging, built-in screens, ceramic surround for controls (giving a whole new tactile and visual effect)... it even has electric windows and power steering.

Pricing starts at R1 632 500 for the 760Li, with option packages M Sport at R1 646 500 or Individual at R1 717 500.
