With a history of more than 80 years of conquering the toughest 4x4 terrain, the Jeep Wrangler is one of the most recognisable and capable vehicles on the planet.
The recently updated Jeep Wrangler builds on the brands goal of delivering freedom of choice, with a combination of off-road capability, iconic Jeep design, open-air freedom, advanced powertrains and a refined interior as well as a host of innovative safety and advanced technology features.
While the Wrangler has been treated to numerous tech and drivetrain updates, the exterior remains largely unchanged apart from a new, yet equally iconic seven slot grille design.
Interior tech updates
Inside, the Wrangler now features a standard 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen radio with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system utilises an Android operating system and over the air updates that allows it to continuously evolve to offer new content, features and services.
12-way power adjustable leather front seats and more than 85 safety features, including Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning are in place to create a more pleasant and safer driving experience.
The interior is loaded with premium features and technology along with Jeep functionality and versatility. The heritage-inspired centre stack features a clean, sculpted form that compliments the horizontal dashboard design. A wrapped instrument panel now features soft-touch surfaces, in fabric or polyurethane, with contrast accent stitching.
Safety and security were paramount in the development of the new Jeep Wrangler, which offers more than 85 available active and passive safety and security features.
A new engine
One of the biggest updates is the fitment of a new 2.0-litre turbocharged I-4 engine, offering 200kW and 400Nm and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which replaces the long in the tooth Pentastar engine.
Legendary go-anywhere capability
Every Wrangler model’s Trail Rated badge reflects an unmatched specification list that includes Dana solid front and rear axles, a two-speed transfer case, traction control, tow hooks, four-wheel disc brakes and four skid plates.
A body on frame design and finely engineered five-link suspension system ensure that the new Wrangler delivers unrivalled capability, refined on-road dynamics and advanced safety features. On Wrangler Rubicon models, an electronic front sway-bar disconnect is fitted to provide additional wheel travel when the terrain calls for it.
Rubicon models are now also available with a Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle. By using a full-float axle design, the weight of the vehicle is transferred to the axle tube rather than the axle shaft itself. Thus, the axle shaft is subjected only to torsional loads, with its sole function being to transmit power to the wheel hub. This makes the axle stronger and more robust.
Sport models run on 17-inch steel wheels and Sahara models feature 18-inch alloys as standard. The Wrangler Rubicon is forged for off-road adventure with Mud-Terrain tyres fitted to its 17-inch alloy rims.
